I have always loved mystery books. As a child, I tore through series after series: Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Trixie Belden, The Dana Girls, and The Three Investigators. Later, I graduated to Agatha Christie, amazed by her creativity and the volume of her body of work. Naturally, I wanted to either be a private detective or a mystery writer when I grew up. My childhood dream did come true, just not quite the way I expected.Practicing law is in the detective-mystery extended universe, with both roles requiring analytical thinking, research skills, and problem-solving. I practiced law for 15 years, with breaks while I solved the mysteries of babies and children like, "How many train friends does Thomas the Tank Engine have?" and "Why does Arthur the aardvark have a pet dog?" During my hiatus from practicing law, I developed my story-telling skills, writing articles, a blog, and a novel. Eventually, I found a way to combine both writing and law, in the field of executive resume writing, with a specialization in legal resumes. I enjoy working with clients to understand their career goals and using my research and analytical skills to craft a resume strategy that achieves those goals. I have worked with lawyers at law firms, in-house at corporations, in nonprofits, and in academia to create their professional brands and tell their stories. As a lawyer, I understand that we often provide value in ways not easily measurable in revenue or cost savings and have developed creative approaches to demonstrating that value on resumes. I appreciate what employers are looking for and which accomplishments should be highlighted. In the 15+ years I spent practicing law, I worked across a variety of specialties, so I am familiar with the intricacies of the GDPR, I understand what it means to work on a Chapter 11 restructuring, and I know the right questions to ask to demonstrate a client's knowledge and experience.
