Trainee Tutor
I have recently joined the team at England Athletics as a Trainee Tutor. As part of this role I will be facilitating their 'off track' coaching courses for Run Leaders & Coaches (LiRF & CiRF) both online and in person, sharing my skills in both coaching & athletics.
Sports Workforce Manager
My current role as Sports Workforce Manager oversees the professional development area for the sport & physical activity service at the University of Leeds. This work area has the primary goal of supporting students to develop their skills and realise their potential and includes leadership, volunteering, placements, internships and workforce development. We aim to offer students a range of paid and voluntary opportunities which offer a dual benefit to the individual students and the wider university community. In this role I work with a range of stakeholders including staff, students and community partners to attract investment, drive opportunity and influence students to engage in applied learning. I line manage two full time staff members and one student intern with overarching responsibility for our coach education programme, kids camps, volunteering portfolio, international sport development project in South Africa and internships.
Sports Volunteering Officer
As Sports Volunteering Officer at the University of Leeds I was responsible for recruiting, training, supporting, deploying, rewarding and recognising sports volunteers across a range of programmes. The menu of opportunities at Leeds includes a coach development programme, projects in local communities and schools in Leeds and an international sport development programme in South Africa. I developed and refined systems and processes in this role, leading to a 135% increase in volunteer engagement. One of my key focus areas was mentoring students to ensure they are able to fully articulate and maximise the transferable graduate level skills which sport can help them to develop. I worked with individual students on a regular basis through structured mentoring, observations and workshops to help support their subsequent employability.
Regional Tennis Services Assistant
I undertook an interim role providing business support for the LTA North team, based at David Lloyd in Leeds. This involved supporting the development of tennis in the North and helping make tennis accessible to more people. My key area of focus was marketing & communications and measurably increasing the visibility of tennis in the region. I managed the LTA North social media pages as well as generating media interest in tennis in the North. This involved researching, writing and distributing good news stories and press releases to specified local media partners via an online PR tool called Relevant Now. In addition to this I supported selected tennis clubs in Yorkshire & the North East to improve their business and increase their membership with bespoke action plans and support. This was coordinated with the club committee but included setting up websites and innovative online payment and booking systems as well as advising on the availability and criteria for funding of capital projects.
Community Tennis Officer
I was Project Manager on a £200,000 2 year Sport England funded project linked to the Aegon Open event in Nottingham (Major Events Engagement Fund). The Tennis in Nottingham project aimed to get more people playing tennis especially those aged 14+ who may not have had the opportunity to play tennis before. This involved hitting the streets with portable tennis kit and bringing tennis to new audiences in non-traditional areas such as community centres, youth groups, parks and games areas. As well as targeting new participants I successfully recruited a small army of 119 volunteer Tennis Activators and Tennis Champions to help us run our sessions and events and spread our message locally. We piloted sustainable methods of recruiting, training, supporting, recognising and rewarding these volunteers and evaluated the impact volunteering had on the organisation as well as on the individuals involved. The 2 year project engaged with over 6000 people in Nottingham through a wide variety of initiatives such as club membership offers, community tennis sessions, REBO Walls and community events.
Mini Tennis & Schools Development Manager
I relocated to Sheffield to join the Academy as a full time coach as well as Schools Coordinator and Administrator. I had an on court role as full time, lead coach on all development mini tennis sessions as well as delivering adult beginner classes, cardio tennis and private lessons. In addition to this I was responsible for organizing inclusive competitive opportunities such as box leagues, match practices and matchplays for our mini tennis players. My off court role mostly involved liaising with schools in the local area to arrange opportunities for us to deliver school tennis clubs both on and off site - specifically communicating with schools and parents about these opportunities, managing the finances involved and arranging staff. I regularly delivered lunchtime and after schools clubs in 6 local schools as well as providing regular schools festivals to promote the academy. The role required me to be very well organised both administratively & practically to juggle all the different elements of my role; from keeping all of the literature up to date to training a team of assistants & level 2 coaches in the academy philosophy and practices.
Assistant Tennis Coach
Bitts Park is a council run ClubMark facility which has also been awarded Beacon status in the UK – This recognizes authorities which have demonstrated excellence in a particular field. The park runs a full development and performance programme inclusive of all ages. I was primarily involved in junior and adult development and competition organizing, but also took an interest in the performance academy to enhance my ideas and knowledge as a coach. The council also had projects promoting tennis to different groups of people through its schools coaching and outreach programmes – through these schemes I have worked with pupils in local primary and secondary schools and youths in less affluent areas of the city. I enjoyed working with a broad spectrum of people and inspiring beginners to improve their game.
Tennis Coach And Area Manager Of Recruitment
The USA Sport Group is the forefront provider of multi-sports and sports specific camps for children aged 3-14 on the east coast of the USA. I went out as a tennis coach but was challenged to branch out into a variety of sports including soccer and baseball. By the end of my term I had been promoted to an Area Manager role which meant I undertook office duties as well as my coaching role. I was in the recruitment department so I was required to sift through suitable applications and conduct telephone interviews for future staff, as well as acting as human resources point of contact to existing staff.
Head Tennis Coach
Eden Lawn Tennis Club needed a coach to re-develop and revive the coaching programme and club structure for the 2009 summer season. This involved creating a fully inclusive weekly programme of coaching sessions, promoting the club and delivering the coaching itself.
Part Time Assistant Coach
Assisting Club Coaches with the delivery of Mini Tennis sessions and supporting them through coach absence and leave. I also ran a hitting session and regular Mini Tennis Parties for the club.
Competition/ Events Organiser
Coordinating and Officiating various junior tournaments on behalf of Cumbria LTA, including a Mini Red League and the AEGON Team Tennis events.
Csa Customer Advisor
I have worked in various post offices including the main flagship branch in Leeds city centre and the WHSmith franchise in Carlisle, so I am accustomed to working in a very busy and challenging customer environment. The role required me to deliver excellent customer service as well as consistent results in the field of sales. I enjoyed the one to one customer interaction and always strove to exceed managerial and customer expectations.
