Regional Director For Educationusa, North And Central America And The Caribbean
Mexico City Area, Mexico
Regional Directors (or REACs) foster international student mobility between the United States and the rest of the world through EducationUSA, a global network of more than 400 advising centers supported by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) at the U.S. Department of State. EducationUSA centers actively promote U.S. higher education around the world by offering accurate, unbiased, comprehensive, objective and timely information about higher education institutions in the United States and guidance to qualified individuals on how best to access those opportunities. As the REAC for Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean working out of the Institute of International Education's Office for Latin America, I oversaw a network of 40 EducationUSA advising centers in 22 countries. I provided daily information and guidance to Advisers, organized multi-day workshops and training programs, and conducted comprehensive evaluation and follow-on to centers. I provided leadership and expertise on issues related to U.S. higher education to myriad stakeholders including U.S. Embassy Public Affairs sections, foreign government agencies, U.S. and foreign universities, and Fulbright Commissions. I contributed research and analysis on international student mobility and regional educational systems to quarterly publications, newsletters, and websites, and represented the region at regional, national and international conferences like NAFSA, AMPEI, OACAC, NAGAP, AACRAO and the EducationUSA Forum.
