Quality Control Manager
CurrentIn October 2011, I joined the Michels/Jay Dee/Coluccio JV team on the San Francisco Bay Tunnel Project as the Quality Control Manager, where I continue to work today. This ~$250 million project, for San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), is part of a $4.6 billion Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) to repair, replace, and upgrade the systems aging pipelines, tunnels, and dams. The Bay Tunnel Project includes the first ever bored tunnel beneath San Francisco Bay, using a 15 ft. diameter Hitachi Zosen EPB tunnel boring machine (TBM). This multi-faceted project also consisted of the Installation of potable water conveyance pipe of varying size and type (5+ miles of 108" diam. steel pipe, along with runs of 42", 60", and 66" diam. steel pipe, various ductile iron pipe runs and glass lined steel piping. Various ground shoring techniques utilized included a slurry wall launch shaft (58' diam X 140' depth), rib and lagging retrieval shaft via ground freezing (21' diam. X 110 ft. depth), beam and lagging trench shoring, etc... Multiple (3) cast-in-place surface buildings were also constructed to house various equipment and controls.
