The ID Unit assists detectives in processing major crime scenes and evidence collected by Officers and Detectives. The ID Unit responds to major crime scenes to capture photographs of the scene, process the scene for fingerprints, and collect physical evidence for further analysis. We may collect such evidence as hairs, fibers, DNA, and firearm evidence and submit to the State Police or the FBI for further examination. The ID Unit’s fingerprint examiner compares latent prints developed at the scene to fingerprints of known suspects. In some cases, the staff of the ID Unit may be required to testify in court to findings recovered from the crime scene. In addition, the ID Unit is responsible for archiving booking photographs, or “mug shots”. The Unit also handles the fingerprinting and photographing processes for License to Carry Firearms or FID cards, Constable, employment purposes and sex offender registry applications

The Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Support Services Unit provides CORI to Board certified, non-criminal justice agencies such as schools, day care centers, home health aides, youth athletic coaches, and municipal government agencies. Individuals may also obtain a copy of their personal criminal record from the CORI Support Services Unit. Excluding law enforcement agency requests, the unit processes and average of 100,000 requests per month.This Unit also assists in correcting inaccurate criminal records, investigates complaints of improper access to or dissemination of CORI, and provides legal assistance on matters relating to the CORI law to police, prosecutors, judges, and the public.
