I served two roles in the National Guard. For the State of California, my role was largely based on disaster and riot response. For my federal obligations, my job was to move as part of a team, while being able to provide accurate fire at extended ranges. In a training environment, I often led instruction on essential and useful military skills such as battle maneuvers, long-range marksmanship and proper equipment maintenance. In garrison environments, I was trusted to oversee proper equipment maintenance, handling, and training, as well as overseeing that those soldiers placed under my care completed appropriate administrative tasks to satisfy the needs of themselves and the U.S. Army. I also spent significant amounts of time sitting in the rain/cold, pondering the decisions that I had made up to that point.
