Communications Specialist
Current• Creates, designs, and delivers public relations, marketing, and informational materials for an agency that consists of over 100 departments, committees, boards, and commissions and employs over 5,000 individuals• Develops and writes communication collateral for both internal and external messages and campaigns; collateral includes press releases, social media posts, newsletters, employee notifications, web pages, blog articles, podcasts, talking points, reports, surveys, speeches, scripts, letters, grant applications, award nominations, infographics, brochures, flyers, postcards, digital signs, and presentations• Assists Director with all media relations efforts that includes monitoring coverage, pitching story ideas, researching information, analyzing data, prioritizing inquiries, and responding to requests – all to enhance the agency’s public image• Collaborates with Communications colleagues to plan and coordinate press conferences, livestream broadcasts, volunteer opportunities, community engagement, employee team-building, and other events• Provides input and proposes new ideas, strategies, and policies during weekly meetings to meet objectives and to improve communication, operations, efficiency, and best practices• Serves as Communication Lead for the County’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Department - major responsibilities include producing Annual Report & strategic implementation of communications campaign for an agency-wide Racial Equity Employee Survey• Lead role in criminal justice reform and supporting local efforts to combat the opioid crisis through assignments to County’s Diversion Center Board and Region 3 One Ohio Advisory Committee.• Communications lead role in assisting the Department of Development with various small business support programs - All-Star Business Week, National Small Business Week, & STIMulus Grant Program.
