This role involved providing a “white glove” premium experience. This role also involved taking escalations to provide support for critical customer accounts. Support Engineer
At Skytap I help support customers who use Skytap's VMware ESX (x86) and Power based Cloud Infrastructure Service. This position entails supporting everything from basic Skytap feature configuration questions to troubleshooting networking issues between virtualized customer environments and connectivity issues between Skytap and customer VPN endpoints. I also assist customers with various REST API based issues within Postman and scripts that they have developed that leverage Skytap's API to automate Cloud Infrastructure deployment.
Customer Support Engineer
This role is on Cisco TAC's Management and Automation Software Team. Cisco TAC MAS is a customer's go to for critical management automation software issues that are impacting their production environment, products such as Prime Infrastructure. This job requires CSE's to actively troubleshoot various components on the backend of Cisco products, components like RHEL, Oracle DB, as well as standard networking device interactions.
Network Consulting Engineer (Nos)
In my ongoing role as a Network Optimization Services (NOS) Network Consulting Engineer, I proactively support and assist Cisco Advanced Services customers’ network operations using network analytics. This position requires comprehensive communication with enterprise customers to ensure that their networks remain stable. As NOS NCE, I have been designated a role on five customer accounts. One customer is in the healthcare industry, two customers are in the energy production industry, one customer is a financial services provider, and one customer is in the manufacturing/distributing sector. This NOS service is provided to customers by the use of network aggregate hardware Cisco installs on the customer premises. This hardware forwards all customer configuration data, device information, and syslog data to our servers at Advanced Services. As a Network Optimization Services NCE, I then take that data collected and compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual, technical reports which suggest ways my customers can proactively improve their networks.
Network Consulting Engineer (Mobility/Wireless)
As a Wireless Network Consulting Engineer, I was tasked with traveling between customer sites across North America to implement newly implemented and existing WLAN designs by performing wireless site surveys. Customers required wireless networks in hospitals, professional sports stadiums, warehouses, and office buildings. The surveys were completed with teams of 2-4 engineers using AirMagnet, Ekahau, and Cisco Spectrum Analyzer software. Equipment used in surveys consisted of Cisco 36/3700i, p, and e, access points mounted on tripods extended to ceiling height. Engineers walk with tablets while following a CAD map of a customer site to collect radio frequency (RF) data, creating a heat map that is used to assess signal strength. These were mobile autonomous units powered by POE compatible batteries. The majority of my surveys were in hospitals. I worked with location-based site surveys and AP placement that allows for client tracking in Prime Infrastructure. Nearly every patient room, operating room, and nursing stations had to be surveyed. Our team worked with hospital staff and patients to plan when to survey each ward to minimize disruptions to staff and patients. Safety was very important, which is why I had to acquire VCS/Symplr credentialing to access restricted areas. Aside from site surveys I have also performed spectrum analysis to detect interference that can be detrimental to WLAN operations in the medical environment. Working closely with customers I would troubleshoot and resolve RF-centric issues to improve the overall stability and availability of the WLAN environment. Finally, I would take all of my findings from surveying, such as AP placement over CAD drawings, coverage heat maps for 2.4GHz and 5GHz over CAD drawings, spectrum analysis results per section, and compile a comprehensive technical document that I would then deliver to my customers.
Network Consulting Engineer Co-Op/Intern
As a Network Consulting Engineer Intern in Cisco’s Global Delivery Center (GDC) I focused most of my efforts on entry level Route and Switch related customer deliverables, such as stable code recommendations for IOS and IOS-XE platforms. This internship also included a 3-month rotation in Cisco’s CALO labs. Work at Cisco’s CALO lab involved building topologies modeled after customer networks for testing purposes. This rotation was focused primarily on racking and stacking equipment reserved by a Network Consulting Engineer or Solutions Architect. I would build out networks with specified connections, usually based on Visio documents, all the way up to layer 2. Afterwards, I would hook the equipment up to a terminal server and provide all of the required access information to the engineers who requested the equipment.
Systems Administration Intern
My system administration experience originates from my time spent at Shodor, a small educational non-profit. My duties involved supporting an all Linux/Unix client and server environment. Servers in this environment were running CentOS v5/6, while clients were running either Debian or Mac OSX. I was assigned a number of reoccurring tasks, which included the following:• Resolving trouble tickets that were created by employees.• Device imaging using Apple Software Recovery and Clonezilla.• Investigating new high availability applications for servers, such as Heartbeat andPacemaker.• Converting or rebuilding old servers in KVM and Xen.
