Sustainability Engineer
• Collaborate with a cross-functional group to develop a corporate sustainability strategy and reduction targets for emissions, water, and waste• Collect, manage, and analyze sustainability data for multiple food manufacturing facilities to satisfy public disclosure policies as well as inform actions towards meeting reduction targets• Manage multiple concurrent capital and continuous improvement projects across multiple manufacturing locations• Develop and standardize PMs for utility equipment (boilers, chillers, air compressors)• Organize and communicate technical information to various internal and external stakeholders
Graduate Research Assistant
Worked primarily on a project called “Effect of organic acids and initial supersaturation on particle size distribution and growth kinetics of struvite.” Research accomplishments included conducting a literature review, organizing and synthesizing information using Excel, designing kinetic experiments using MINTEQ, and analyzing experimental data using Excel. This project was developed in collaboration with my graduate advisor and a senior graduate student.A secondary project funded by the Gates Foundation focused on the techno-economic assessment (TEA) and life-cycle analysis (LCA) of decentralized sanitation technology. Skills developed during this project included giving oral presentations, co-writing three technical reports for the Gates Foundation, working with external collaborators, conducting a literature review, analyzing and synthesizing data in Excel, using Python, and working on a team.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Part-time (10-15 hr/wk) research assistant in Dr. Upal Ghosh’s Environmental Science and Engineering lab under the additional mentorship of Dr. Nathalie Lombard. The research project focused on extracting and analyzing polychlorinated biphenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and pesticides from environmental-markers in a local river in order to understand the pathways of the pollutants and develop remediation technologies. Technical requirements included extracting and analyzing the target analytes from mussel tissue samples, resulted in gained experience in ultrasonic extraction, volumetric pipetting, micro-pipetting, acid handling, column clean ups, gas chromatography, and data analysis.
Teaching Fellow, Chemical Engineering Process Kinetics
Teaching fellow (5-10 hr/wk) for ENCH 440: Process Kinetics, a required course for undergraduates in the chemical engineering program. Held office hours, lead discussions, proctored exams, and graded assignments. Worked under the advisement of Dr. Mark Marten
Independent Undergraduate Researcher
Worked under Dr. Detlef Knappe on the project “Phosphate Removal by Lanthanum-Containing Materials: Effect of Alkalinity and pH on Treatment Effectiveness.” Research accomplishments included designing a batch experiment to understand the kinetic and equilibrium effects of complex water matrices on the ability of lanthanum to remove phosphate.
Teaching Fellow, Chemical Engineering Analysis
Teaching fellow (5-10 hr/wk) for Chemical Engineering Analysis, a course in the Chemical, Biochemical, and Environmental Engineering Department. The course focused on introducing fundamental problem solving tools for chemical engineers such as mass balances, energy balances, and gas/ multi-phase/ multi-component equations. Duties included holding office hours, leading discussions, proctoring exams, and grading assignments.
Independent Undergraduate Researcher
Worked under Dr. Gil Bohrer and Dr. Jorge VIlla on a project focused on quantifying the greenhouse gas flux (methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide) due to ebullition in Old Woman Creek, an estuarine marsh along Lake Erie in Ohio. Research accomplishments included designing and installing passive ebullition gas-traps in the field, extracting gas samples, preparing samples for gas chromatography analysis, and using MATLAB to calculate flux rates and conduct relevant statistical analysis.Secondary assistance was applied to data collection for other projects including, requiring the use of gas-chambers and a modified Picarro GasScouter instant gas concentration analyzer to measure methane and carbon dioxide flux from different plant species and diffusion. Additional assistance was provided for the calculation of leaf area index for relevant plant species using MATLAB, photo editors, and destructive sampling.
Independent Undergraduate Researcher
Worked under Dr. Annick Anctil on a project to design and test methodology for theoretical economic-analysis to determine the impact of two closed-loop end-of-life pathways for electric vehicle batteries on their future price. Technical accomplishments included developing excel code to analyze these pathways, conducting an in-depth literature review, analyzing policy impacts on the proposed end-of-life pathways, and writing a research paper summarizing the work.
