Hi! I am a third-year Community Development student at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. During my studies, I gained knowledge and expertise in psychology, sociology, social work, and business. I applied what I had learned to accomplish five service-learning projects with my team, including a fundraiser, lobbying activities, and initiatives to improve the well-being of Singapore's vulnerable communities.In addition to my community involvement, I have received numerous significant experiences throughout the last ten years of playing basketball. As a basketball captain, I play and practice hard, and through connecting with both my teammates and peers, I improve my confidence, discipline, teamwork, and communication skills. In secondary 2, I ascended through the ranks to become captain, in charge of training, performance, and competition. In order to properly oversee my team, I honed my interpersonal, team management, and leadership abilities. With my expertise in both community care and social services, as well as community development, I was able to connect the dots and discover my passion for community service. The journey was good, and it gave me a more defined goal to work towards, which I hope will be with the people and for the community.I'm a goal-oriented professional that knows how to overcome challenges and deliver demonstrable outcomes. Supervised PracticumPresbyterian Community Services (Pcs) Nov 2022 - Jan 2023In November 2022, I was sent to Presbyterian Community Services to see firsthand how a trained social worker manages a case. This practicum gives me the opportunity to learn about how various theories, such as the Family Life Cycle, and tools, such as the Genogram, may help me better understand a beneficiary situation. Here are some of the things I did during my practicum:- Assisting my supervisor with a residential visit and observing the beneficiary's environment- Used Genopro to create a Genogram of our family structure to show our supervisor how family structure influences how we see and interpret the world.- Observed at least ten distinct situations ranging from low-income to homelessness elderly to learn about the difficulties encountered by the disadvantaged population.My time at Presbyterian Community Services was really rewarding since I was able to put what I had learnt into practice. My interactions with the recipient and my supervisor during the house visit provided me with excellent insights into the social work business. I was also able to become more self-aware of myself and my family. -
