W. Scott Schneider is a partner with the firm and handles the defense of hospitals and physicians as well as general negligence actions. He is a graduate of Hobart College and the University of Bridgeport School of Law, and has been a litigator for the past 30 years, trying well over 100 cases to verdict. Mr. Schneider was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1988 and the United States District Court of the Eastern District of New York in 1992. He was then admitted to the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, in 1994. Scott began his career as a prosecutor for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in 1988 before becoming an Assistant County Attorney in the Federal and State Litigation Bureau of the Suffolk County Attorney’s office. As a trial attorney he defended the County of Suffolk in numerous personal injury, civil rights and official misconduct cases, and was appointed to serve as the head of the State Court Trial Bureau where he supervised a team of trial attorneys and support staff. Mr. Schneider’s bureau was responsible for defending Suffolk County in approximately 1200 cases covering all facets of general litigation. He personally handled all significant litigations, trying over 50 cases to verdict with a 90% success rate. In 2003 Scott joined Ivone, Devine & Jensen as a partner focusing on representing physicians and hospitals and in the defense of medical malpractice actions. Since then he has obtained over 35 consecutive medical malpractice defendant verdicts at the Supreme Court level. In 2009, Scott was asked to co-author a chapter in Medical Malpractice in New York [3rd ed. 2009], the textbook on medical malpractice litigation published by the New York State Bar Association. He is also a former adjunct professor at Stony Brook University and Dowling College and has lectured on litigation and related topics for the New York State Bar Association and the American INNS of Court of the Touro College Jacob P. Fuchsberg Law Center.Recently Scott published a novel entitled “Diamond in the Rough” which is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and even Walmart.
