I created strategic relationships between Vanderbilt faculty and community partners so that university non-monetary resources could provide direct benefit to Nashville residents in the areas of: immigrants and refugees, affordable housing, the digital divide, inter-generational poverty, and K-12 education. I designed a re-launch of the Center in cooperation with the VCNS Community Advisory Board, including the Mayor of Nashville, the Chancellor of Vanderbilt as well as area business and nonprofit CEOs. I increased the collective impact of more than 20 VU / VUMC departments and centers by creating a coalition of faculty, staff and students engaged with the local community. I successfully planned and managed the Center’s budget as well as its graduate and undergraduate fellows.

I created strategic communications plans for Middle Tennessee clients. Additionally, I regularly wrote popular feature-length articles for Vanderbilt Magazine (90,000+ circulation), as well as for school-specific magazines at Vanderbilt including the College of Arts and Science and the Owen Graduate School of Management. I consulted on strategic communications with Vanderbilt University’s Department of Finance, Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations and Vanderbilt Career Center. I completed strategic communications plans for several area non-profits and independent schools.

I developed and implemented early generation, university-wide strategic communications initiatives. I led division-wide and university-wide initiatives in communications and external relations. I identified ways to promote Vanderbilt within the wider local community, incorporating a variety of university departments, student organizations and campus-based programs. A strong publications writer as well as speech writer, I authored hundreds of feature-length pieces, news releases, media advisories and articles. I wrote for internal and external audiences articles and speeches for use by senior Vanderbilt administrators, including the Chancellor and vice chancellors.

I ensured adults learners earned their General Equivalence Diplomas (GEDs). While at the Martha O'Bryan Center, located in the heart of Nashville's oldest and largest public housing development - Cayce Place – I delivered personalized instruction for adult learners, strategically managed data for the Tennessee Department of Human Services and the United Way of Middle Tennessee. I developed and implemented a Family Literacy curriculum that supported parents as their children’s first teachers.
