Supervising a small advert design team, my role was to bothdesign adverts for a wide range of UK based lifestylemagazines and to ensure the continued quality andaccuracy of adverts designed by my team. Part of a team of three, my role included liaising withclients, editors and sales teams across five separate lifestylepublications, Herefordshire Life, Staffordshire Life,Shropshire Life, Birmingham Life and Warwickshire Life.Designs ranged from smaller, classified adverts to full pageadverts and editorial features. From here, I was able todevelop very good typographic knowledge, excellentcreative skills and an eye for detail, skills that are invaluablewhen working in any graphic design position.

In my first design position, this role included working in adesign and print shop, laying up artwork to send to printfor clients such as the National Probation Service, anddoing design for in-house products such as price listmanuals and CD back up covers. I also developedknowledge of scanning, imagesetting, laying up artworkand sending to print and other pre-press processes.

HND in Design (Typography)GNVQ Advanced Art & DesignDeveloping from art & design to a more focussed courseon design gave me a great insight into the power oftypography and how it is used in everyday communication.One of my main achievements was producing the publicityfor my typography course exhibition. This involved clientbriefings, idea visualising, working to deadlines, teamwork,communication skills and being responsible for the projectgoing to print.
