As a second generation architect and firm leader, I am privileged to work in a field that provides great personal satisfaction and allows one to contribute in a meaningful way to community well-being. My colleagues at WKMC are smart, talented, responsible, and inspirational. There is an intense esprit de corps that unites us in meeting the rapidly evolving challenges of a modern architectural practice. WKMC values stability, balance, creativity, technical excellence and integrity. Remaining always mindful of these values has allowed us to prosper since the firm was founded in 1953. Although the profession and the construction industry have changed enormously in that span of time, our values continue to guide all that we do.

My colleagues and I started Enersave as an experiment in sustainable design and construction. Originally, the company was formed as a licensed dealer for Icynene, a very high quality polyurethane, spray-applied building insulation. Our careers practicing architecture in the hot, humid coastal environment of Texas provided a wealth of knowledge about building science. We knew that a basic tenet of residential construction embodied in codes was fundamentally wrong. Specifically, the use of natural or forced air to ventilate attics in our climate made no sense. We needed an alternative that would allow the attic to be sealed to make a more airtight envelope. Sprayed foam was the obvious solution but there was no installer in the area. So, we acquired the necessary equipment, training and personnel and set to work creating a market for the product and a new paradigm for construction. Over the following 10 years Enersave almost single-handedly changed the perceptions of designers, builders, code officials and owners in South Texas. Through constant outreach and education programs, trade show exhibits, demonstration projects, and a rapidly expanding list of successful installations, we established a new standard for construction. References from satisfied customers abounded. Of course, our achievements also spawned plenty of competitors. That is perhaps the greatest testament to the underlying premise of our experiment. We wanted to make a real impact - and it worked! Now, foam insulation is the standard not only for better custom homes, but also for many tract builders who have to fulfill higher expectations of their customers. It has also become a standard in most of our commercial design projects at WKMC Architects.We sold the firm to its long-time managers in 2014. They continue to operate it at the highest levels of professionalism. It is our pleasure to continuing specifying foam insulation and recommending Enersave Systems.
