Autonomic is the creator of the Transportation Mobility Cloud. The founders asked me to help form the first satellite office in Toronto as the technical lead. There, I introduced the game changing engineering practices that took the company from an early startup, to acquisition by Ford Motor Company, and to a global organization.- Led a team of six as both Engineering and Product Manager for “tip of the spear” initiatives to enable engineering productivity, rapid organizational scale-up, product quality, SecDevOps, and SRE.- Conducted pilot projects as Architect and was the key decision maker on the use of numerous strategic vendors and technologies (Datadog, Honeycomb, Hazelcast, Concourse CI, OpenTracing/OpenTelemetry).- Introduced Reactive Programming and Kubernetes autoscaling by building a Spring/Reactor based load testing framework capable of efficiently simulating millions of stateful "things" with nanosecond precision. Its creation was critical for our ability to validate the product at production scales.- Publicly participated in OpenTelemetry Collector and Sampling SIGs to advocate for the standardization of a sample count parameter, to enable the interoperability of scalable trace sampling and analytics components.- Introduced Engineering Working Groups to break down team silos and develop alignment and best practices around strategic technologies.

Upon the acquisition of Xtreme Labs, I joined the team of industry leaders who built and maintained the Spring Framework, and Cloud Foundry, a Kubernetes predecessor. I focused on making microservice architecture and security best practices accessible to developers.- Lead the multitenant-ification of UAA, Cloud Foundry’s open source platform authorization server, to enable its commercialization and use by platform end users.- From the first mockups to the first release, led the design and implementation of Pivotal Single Sign-On, the commercial offering of Cloud Foundry UAA, to provide an easy onramp for developers to build and run apps on Pivotal Cloud Foundry that are secured by IdP integrations.- Created and conducted workshops for big bank clients in Canada and Singapore to provide subject matter expertise to sales engineers.- Presented at numerous conferences and filed a patent.- Lead the design and implementation of a non-blocking, live codeable, API aggregation and transformation layer using Spring and Nashorn, which outperformed Node.js in CPU cycles.

I was hired to lead the enterprise Java portfolio for a rapidly growing mobile consultancy, and evolved it into a platform for cross device mobile web CMS and native app APIs. I lead teams in the use of Java, Spring, Hibernate, EHCache, Liferay, Tomcat, JBoss, MySQL, and AWS, to create web-scale mobile browser experiences for Bell Mobility, Bell Media (Sympatico, TSN, BNN, MTV) and MEC.

We helped homeowners, schoolkids, and businesses reduce their carbon footprint with IoT and big data using Spring Framework, Cassandra, ActiveMQ, and MySQL.

I led the rewrite of a "copy paste multi tenancy" LAMP stack to Spring, Hibernate, AWS, and Netsuite, to transform the business into a true SaaS provider, enabling Achievers to become one of Canada's fastest growing companies 2 years in a row. This is where I really honed my skills in MySQL, implementing efficient temporal, hierarchical, and accounting data structures that made complex queries across numerous 100K row tables no sweat.

My career began at Honeywell as a high school student, when I was hired to work the summer after an unpaid internship. The systems integration techniques I developed during that internship were used to build supply chain automation solutions that process engineers could only dream of, some of which reduced defects and turnaround time on the manufacturing floor by 10%. I used novel techniques combining VBA, Netscape's Server Side Java Script, .Net, and SQL Server, which interacted with the HP3000 mainframe.
