The goal of an editor is to help authors communicate effectively to their target audiences. Even a complex technical concept should be understood by average readers the first time that they read it. The means by which an editor can do this are by ensuring concision, clarity, correctness, completeness, and consistency.I work with subject matter experts to construct documents that are direct, clear, and easy to read. For example, simply reordering words or clauses in a sentence can make the sentence more understandable. Correct punctuation and appropriate formatting also provide the reader with guideposts to more easily understand the content, even if the reader is not conscious of the effects of such techniques.
