China Maritime Arbitration Commission (“CMAC”), established within the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade on 22 January 1959 in accordance with the Decision made by the state Council of the People’s Republic of China on 21 November 1958, is a permanent arbitration institution, taking cognizance of domestic and international cases involving maritime disputes. CMAC has its headquarters in Beijing, with sub-commissions in Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Fujian. In order to meet the needs of the development of its arbitration practices and to provide parties with convenient arbitration advice and service, CMAC successively established a number of liaison offices in major coastal cities such as Dalian, Tianjin, Qingdao, Ningbo, Guangzhou and Zhoushan. To provide professional arbitration services for specific business sectors, CMAC established the Fishery Dispute Resolution Center, the Maritime Conciliation Center and the Logistics Dispute Resolution Center. Decades of maritime arbitration practice has fostered and brought up a rank of arbitrators with occupational ethics, consummate level of professional work, and abundant practical experience. Furthermore, CMAC has cultivated a team of secretaries, which takes charge of procedural administration of arbitration cases with their positive attitude and diligence, and provides arbitrators and parties with efficient and professional services. CMAC has heard thousands of maritime cases since its establishment. The CMAC awards which are considered to be impartial and authoritative have won CMAC great reputation at home and abroad. CMAC now is one of the major maritime arbitration institutions.
