Two villages in West Bengal, in Dwariapur, Purba Bardhaman and Bikna, Bankura having 300 plus Dokra Artisan Families are engaged in our Community Enterprise through two Industrial Cooperative Societies (ICS). Our organized community enterprise development is on since 2014 for the artisan community development through community enterprise development. In 2020-2021 two community enterprise development boot camps were carried out under MSDE Govt of India PMYUVA project on the foundation of which a Producers Company is being created with a plugged in Private Limited Company where these two ICSs and their beneficiaries are coming into as partners and jointly engaged to create scale through aggregated market inputs and market linkages through high value sales and sales through art auctioning. Between our twin Dokra Artisan villages of Bikna, Bankura and Dwariyapur, Purba Bardhaman, we are about 300 plus Dokra Artisans, supporting family members of about 1000 people, women and young kids, who also actively engage in and support our work. We have two cooperative societies one in each village. One of them is controlled by a handful of the more affluent dokra artisans and the other is not functional. All the dokra artisans of one village and select few of another village, together, we are in the process of registering DokraArts Private Limited, which will support us both for national and global marketing, help us to set up best practices of doing business and also help us apply new designs and new technology to our Dokra Artisanry process. Dokra is one of the ancient Indian art forms showcasing the local lifestyle and culture of people making the art. The vanishing wax method of metal casting, popularly known as Dokra, is a primitive technique. It can be traced back to the Indus Valley civilization and is considered popular because of its wide usage, cultural connectivity, and folk charisma.
