Empowering Communities, Restoring Land, Sowing Seeds of Sustainability Green Leaf Kenya is a youth- and women-led nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering rural communities in Homa Bay County through innovative, sustainable, and community-driven solutions. We make climate change easy to understand so everyone in the community can take action, protect the environment, and live sustainable lives. At the heart of our work is the transformation of abandoned sand mines in North and South Rachuonyo into thriving sustainable farms. These community-led projects include vertical farming, borehole drilling to address water scarcity, and the establishment of microgrids to power agricultural activities. By restoring over 100 acres of degraded land, we create economic opportunities, provide employment to community members - especially women, youth and people abled differently, ensuring food security for local families. The crops grown on these farms are sold for income, offering direct benefits to community members who own and operate the farms. We also add value to agricultural products, maximizing their potential and impact. These initiatives not only restore the environment but also uplift communities by creating long-term, sustainable livelihoods. Green Leaf Kenya is committed to fostering resilience, equity, and environmental stewardship in all that we do.
