Head Of Environment And Nature Recovery
CurrentI am the strategic lead for nature recovery at Forestry England. We are the largest land manager in England, covering an array of different habitats, from upland Sitka spruce plantations, to the diverse mosaic of the New Forest.I lead on the development and delivery of our Biodiversity Plan. Focusing on achieving favourable status on our 68,000 ha of SSSIs, increasing the area of open habitat to 21.1%, restoring our 42,000 ha of PAWS, delivering more and better species reintroductions, and driving innovation within our wild areas such as Wild Ennerdale. I am particularly interested in cost-effective nature recovery at scale, coupled with robust metrics of biodiversity performance such as eDNA and bioacoustics.I represent Forestry England on the National Nature Reserve steering group and Major Landowners Group, and am a member of the England Species Reintroductions Taskforce.I also lead our wider environment team, covering wildlife management, the historic environment, and the Forest Wilding programme, and assist with organisational wide initiatives such as TNFD adoption.I was a winner of a Forestry England People Award, under the category "Be Adventurous", one of Forestry England's four values.
