Performed chemical process simulation (ASPEN Plus, PD+) to design chemical plant flowsheets. Modeled unit operations like distillation, reaction and liquid extraction with physics-based models. Sized and specified major equipment.Helped commercialize a new process by changing flowsheet design and running simulations on new designs to improve the process' OPEX/CAPEX in comparison to world-wide competing designs.Implemented analytical techniques (in R / Python) for a variety of R&D and simulation tasks, including prediction of material properties and reactor performance. Developed two in-silico 'black-box' models for reactors that consisted of an ensemble of neural networks (Tensorflow) and an application of first-principles equations from chemical engineering. Used SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to summarize and elucidate behavior of the reactors.Produced process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment datasheets, heat & material balances, and piping line lists.

Constructed regression models to predict performance metrics of reduced-smoke solid rocket propellants used in booster applications and missile products. The model predicted burn rate profiles of propellants (burn rate, pressure exponent) as a function of propellant composition and atmospheric pressure. Determined ideal operating conditions for equipment to scale-up production of the rocket propellant for the jettison motor in NASA’s Orion spacecraft.

Constructed high thermal effusivity materials for a new paradigm of solar-thermal energy harvesting ("thermal resonation") as part of the Strano Group at MIT. The material maximizes the quantity of heat energy absorbed during the day and maximizes the quantity of heat energy dissipated at night, leading to large heat fluxes that are converted to electricity with thermoelectric materials.
