I attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), and studied to receive my Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering as well as a minor in Business. Through WPI’s project based curriculum, I learned not only how to work effectively as an individual, but also in a group.Currently, I am a Real Time Support Engineer for ISO New England Inc. In this role I am tasked with studying the New England electrical transmission system for potential thermal, voltage, or stability issues, and finding ways to protect against any found. These studies are both long term, looking at future generators or transmission elements and assessing their impact on the grid, as well as real-time in order to mitigate evolving issues as they occur. Through my studies I determine any necessary transmission limitations and/or generation requirements or restrictions, and then codify these into guidance for system operators and outage coordinators to implement. Prior to this, I was an Outage Coordinator for ISO NE. In this role I studied transmission and generation outages, assessing their thermal and voltage effects on the New England transmission system. I regularly interfaced with local control centers & equipment owners in order to discuss, move, alter, or deny outage requests. Both of these roles have provided an excellent blend of time-sensitive individual work, as well as group coordination and discussion. Additionally my time as a whole at ISO NE has given me a wide understanding of electrical power generation, transmission, and markets. Prior to this, I was a Field Service Representative for Solar Turbines Inc. Through that position I performed field work on a number of different gas turbine models and ancillary equipment located at upwards of 50 sites, each site. The work I performed was vast in scope but included troubleshooting and fixing equipment issues, replacing major components, tuning turbine control logic to meet operational requirements, commissioning new units entirely, as well as installing and commissioning major system retrofits. These not only involved the physical work, but also managing multiple contractor groups on site and coordinating with various customers. This job represented a vast amount of independence as I manage my own travel, expenses, lodging and job preparation. It allowed for a blend of engineering, hands-on work and experience, programing, customer interaction, both independence and team work, as well as contractor and job management. I also gained an understanding of the Oil & Gas and Power Generation Industries.
