My duties included:- Represented CRA on multiple advocacy coalitions. Accomplishments: active role in several Congressional events with the Task Force on American Innovation and served as the chair of coalition’s Events Subcommittee; represented CRA on the Advisory Committee of the Congressional Robotics Caucus in planning events, including a major showcase event in Senate in April 2023; and served on executive committee for the Coalition for National Security Research (CNSR)- Writer for the CRA Policy Blog, primary tool to keep CRA membership aware of policy issues. Subjects covered: tracking all stages of the annual appropriations process, communications covering significant authorization legislation, and agency actions that impacted the computing research community (examples include research security, STEM education, open access, and other agency actions). Told by multiple Congressional staff and sister org colleagues that they found my writings to be a useful resource.- Took lead in planning and managing multiple Congressional Visit Days, where CRA members went to offices of their Congressional delegations to advocate issues of importance. Organized, managed, and trained volunteers and staff to accomplish the goals and objectives. Duties include recruiting CRA members; contacting Congressional offices to schedule meetings; draft, edit, and produce advocacy materials; and instruct and train participants in how to have an effective meetings.- Took lead in managing logistics and materials for multiple outside events, most significant being 4 Leadership in Science Policy Institute (LiSPI) workshops where researchers from the computing research community took part in a 1.5 day crash course in how federal policy is formulated and how researchers can impact the process. Responsibilities included location and hotel selection, point of contact for speakers and attendees, authoring materials used during the workshop, and assisting with execution of the workshop.

Accomplished photographer: - Performed paid jobs for an assortment of events; such jobs have been Capitol Hill receptions, all day conferences, press conferences, and wedding. - Work has appeared in multiple print publications, website of the National Press Club and DC area blogs, and multiple juried art shows.- Worked as a Volunteer Photographer for the National Press Club (NPC), where I photographed multiple news conferences and NPC luncheons, and was required to provide multiple photographs, along with captions, to the editor of the Club’s website for publication, on deadline.

Worked in the Public Affairs Office of APS Physics. Started at APS as the office's Legislative Correspondent in March of 2005. Promoted in January of 2008 to the position of Legislative Assistant and in September of 2011 promoted again to the position of Grassroots Manager. Registered lobbyist and my duties included:- Advocated APS positions on science & technology policy and research funding.- Represented APS members’ issues with Congressional staff. - Escorted members regularly to Congressional offices to press APS issues.- Composed and organized documents for use during advocacy efforts.- Took the lead in planning and executing multiple Congressional visit days (CVDs), where APS members went to the offices of their Congressional delegates to press APS issues. Some of these CVDs were held in conjunction with other organizations, where I was the representative for APS. - In charge of planning and operating Contact Congress, an initiative encouraging APS members to write letters to members of Congress. Contact Congress takes place at the three yearly meetings of the society. Many of these meetings I was the sole representative of the Washington Office.- Served as committee administrator for the policy committee that oversees the Washington Office's operations. I regularly communicated with members to meet committee needs; planned three yearly meetings of the committees; and compiled minutes of the meetings.- Developed a social media strategy for the Washington Office.- Maintained and updated the Washington Office webpage. - Research Congressional Record, federal agencies, and major news outlets for information needed to support the mission of the Society.

In my position as a teacher, I devised and taught my own lesson plan; handled discipline inside and outside the classroom; counseled students on motivation, comprehension, and grade issues; counseled parents on progress of students in class; and assisted in extracurricular activities, including the Debate Team and the 2004 Gonzaga-Red Cloud Cultural Experience (GRACE) service program. Other responsibilities included substituting for teachers, in all subjects, who were temporarily absent.
