From bench to bedside, Brooke has had exposure in all aspects of the R&D pipeline. She has been involved in basic scientific research and sponsored programs administration; preclinical operations and compliance; study development and clinical research management; and communications, business development, and market research, all within or connected to the biotechnology industry. Coupling this external work experience with internal university coursework, Brooke has gained both academic knowledge and industry involvement, allowing her to maintain a big-picture perspective of the biotech industry yet stay immersed in the details of each individual pipeline function.Above all, Brooke strives toward continual growth and loves challenging herself to think in different ways through multiple frames of reference.     - Developed and wrote an IRB-Approved Study Protocol for Catalyst by Southern Research, a longitudinal observational clinicogenomics study that provides cost-free genomic sequencing to tens of thousands of Alabamians and returns clinically actionable insight reports to their primary care providers, as well as facilitates personalized clinical trial eligibility matching for participants. - Assisted in development of several documents to accompany the Study Protocol, including electronic informed consent; website copy and communications to participants; and SOPs for both internal study team processes and external participant- and provider-facing processes.- Designed a comprehensive flowchart detailing all data transfer and logic between several third-party contractors, internal SR teams, study participants and clinicians, and external researchers.- Wrote a detailed Letter of Intent (including research background, study population, comparators, outcomes, study design, and engagement approach) with a ~24 hour turnaround-time for an FA to increase Catalyst's scope to include additional rare disease diagnostics.     - The UA Early-Career Research Administration Fellowship (ECRAF) is a year-long fellowship in the Office for Research & Economic Development (ORED) designed to provide selected students with the experience and training necessary to explore a career in Research Administration.- Fellowship Area: Office for Sponsored Programs || OSP services support faculty and other employees with proposal preparation, review, and submission; award acceptance and administrative changes; and serves as a liaison with external sponsors.Projects: (1) Developed standardized pre- and post-award SOPs for grants and contracts specialists, including SOPs for proposal preparation, proposal submission, post-submission pre-award revisions, award setup, award amendment, and post-award reporting requirements.(2) Constructed a report that was used to determine restructuring of OSP Specialist department assignments. For each department at the University of Alabama, determined the total number of proposals and awards, and their monetary values, submitted in the past three years (via Cayuse SP reporting portal); determined the frequency of each federal, state, and local sponsor UA principal investigators submitted proposals to, and received awards from, in the past three years; and constructed a report that quantitatively showed the current division of work among the Specialists in the Office. Used this data to more equally divide the workload/department-load amongst each Specialist.
