Education Development Executive for Water Safety Ireland (WSI), established as a statutory body, a voluntary organisation and a registered charity to promote drowning prevention water safety initiatives in Ireland. With over 5,000 members nationwide, WSI permeates Irish society at many levels, partnering with government agencies, corporate sponsors, NGOs, local authorities and community groups nationwide.

Ensuring the safety of pool users with excellent proficiency in swimming, resuscitation, rescue techniques and first aid

As a Swim Instructor, I am responsible for teaching children from the age of four up to twelve years old, basic swimming techniques. This is carried out in a group environment as well as on a one-to-one basis.

During the summer months, I worked as a Beach Lifeguard along the west coast of Ireland. My main responsibilities were ensuring the safety of beach users and providing first aid when required.

As a Water Safety Instructor, my job is to travel to various locations around the west coast of Ireland and run water safety courses. This involved teaching children from the age of four to eighteen years old rescue techniques in and out of the water as well as first aid and CPR. In some awards, I had the responsibility of examining and awarding students their levels. This was done in correlation with the Irish Water Safety syllabus.

Ciara worked as an English teacher at the Canadian Language Institute in Seville, south of Spain. The techniques taught at this institute followed a method known as 'Natural Immersion' which allowed the students to absorb the language in a natural and fluid way. This method proved to increase longevity of the knowledge of the language also.
