AboutIn 2005 I moved from California to rural Eastern North Carolina with a commitment to teach 7th grade for 2 years - and every intention to go back west afterwards.Instead, nearly two decades later I'm still living in a small town in Eastern NC, married to an educator and raising two children. So the most important thing to say about me is that I delight in the unexpected joys that life offers. But like every other human, I am hardwired to ignore the delights and focus on what's wrong, scary, or threatening. My own ongoing journey to live from joy and creativity has led me to support others to do the same: As a coach and consultant, I support leaders and teams to cultivate deep self-awareness and create the conditions for radically different ways of working and being together so that they can achieve impossible futures. It is life-giving work, and I am grateful to the extraordinary humans who invite me into their organizations and lives every day. Over the last 20 years, I have…- Coached school system superintendents, principals, teachers, non-profit leaders and small business owners to transform their leadership and reinvent the way their organizations work. - Led launch retreats for innovative project teams within the public school system, leading to the creation of new school and staffing models that build on the insights of learning science and the future of work. -Designed, launched and scaled a pilot program to re-imagine the participant experience for Teach For America corps members and alumni leaders in Eastern NC, leading to one of the five highest satisfaction rates in the country for multiple consecutive years. -Managed a leadership development program for ~200 Teach For America corps members, including leading a diverse staff of coaches and operational leads. -Coached the most joy-filled 5-7 year old soccer team I've ever seen. I believe work doesn't have to be exhausting - it can be fulfilling. I believe we can transcend our hardwiring, replacing fear, bias, and anxiety with joy and creativity. I believe everyone is capable of transformation, and if enough of us commit to it we can redesign everything from the way children learn to how adults work together.
