Development of social care solutions and health integration projects.

This was a hands-on position where I was responsible for the full development life-cycle of many highly visible and successful projects. Whilst working with both local and remote employees, I personally wrote and maintained the vast majority of the code. The company built a reputation for innovation and producing industrial strength products which were deployed in thousands of locations, most of which have been running 24/7 for many years. The product set has a reputation for reliability and was used by household brands such as Tesco, Comet, HMV, DVLA, John Lewis, Sportsworld, Ubisoft, Serco, Cisco, Sony, Pioneer etc. We were pioneers in digital signage and audio in-store solutions which includes such firsts as HD play out and 3G based distribution of content. Highlights include:HMV, Sportsworld & Tesco Express in-store radio - Java and J2EE rules based distribution services across the Internet/internal networks with playback from embedded devices containing custom Linux firmware.Comet in-store HDTV digital signage point of sales – J2EE and Oracle front end, Java based content distribution, .NET based media playback.Sky HD+ in-store set-top box emulation - .Net desktop application and media playback.Sky HDTV in-store demonstration system - J2EE and Oracle front end, Java based content distribution, .NET based media playback.Digital signage within dental practices, 200+ sites - J2EE and Oracle front end, Java based content distribution, .NET based media playback. iOS Web app and custom Android media apps.

My primary project involved design and implementation of a unique J2EE n-tier data integration solution to address the need for web-based access to virtual electronic health records across multiple organisations within the NHS. The system was subsequently commissioned and rolled-out within district social services. I was also successful in creating a web services based interface using Axis into our system for the purpose of an NH.S. trial contract. This was implemented across Sybase Enterprise Application Server and ASE database. A secondary project concerned the successful pilot of a portable data capture solution for the Scottish Police force on PDAs.

Employed as a member of the R&D lab for an Internet based content acquisition and management publishing/portal solution targeting multiple devices. I was in charge of the design and coding of the web tier and client applications. This utilised Java Enterprise running on BEA Weblogic application server and Oracle 8. I was also Test Manager, utilising the Mercury tool set of Test Director and Loadrunner. Responsibility for the mentoring of a team of junior developers was also part of my duties.

Employed as UK wide specialist trainer & consultant in Internet technologies. This post required rapid knowledge development to deliver technical courses to a wide range of blue-chip clients including IBM, Compaq, Standard Life, Royal Bank & BT. A selection of courses included:Programming: Java, A.S.P. JavaScript, XML/XSLTManagement: E-Commerce strategies, XML, B2B, B2C, change management, migrationInfrastructure: Security, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP etcWeb design: Official Dreamweaver & Fireworks courseware, Site design, HTML, CSS, WAPI was also tasked with building the web site for QA Scotland utilising A.S.P. on I.I.S. with SQL Server. This allowed for live browsing & booking of courses across the Internet and included full administrative functions.

Web site development & system administration for clients hosted on Amethyst in-house Web servers. These public facing commercial web sites were implemented on Microsoft IIS including use of A.S.P., ADO, JavaScript and VBScript on SQL Server databases.Previous employment history available on request.
