While developing a body armor solution for a large customer we found the effects studio would benefit from having a vacuum forming machine. Online searches found already constructed models to be cost-prohibitive for our required dimensions. For a third of the completed cost I built a machine through studying and modifying available designs. The appliance now creates forms beyond the original goals and is a centerpiece for an upcoming class.Larger entertainment markets bring projects to our nascent film community. On one such project involving harrowing stories of survival, my task was distressing a new pair of climbing shoes. Asking the right questions and delivering a convincing final product contributed to earning this client's trust driving them to use our services when filming in Colorado as well as California.• Fundamentals identification and analysis for use in interpreting project requirements leading to developing suitable concepts resulting in the fabrication of usable prototypes.• Incorporating SDLC concepts to fabricate usable prototypes.• Instituting menu boards for improving customer communication and efficiency during zombification events.

Deciding to enhance our reactionary product monitoring measures I brought about the tooling of a system initiation process automating the standardized installation of third-party components. This process enables stabilizing new systems by implementing known base configurations while further enhancing our update abilities to close security threats. This method fosters more accuracy to resource requests, brings systems into immediate product audit inclusion, and improves turnaround times for Operations.Bolstering a PHP tool developed by a teammate we created a report card detailing each product’s compliance with existing company standards. Using these report cards in status meetings and post mortems put an appreciable importance to satisfying infrastructure standards.Ever-increasing complexity and shortened timelines necessitated further automation on each end of the development lifecycle. Rather than waiting for a thorough evaluation of all possible tools, I implemented a release orchestration workflow using Jenkins creating gates for promotion between each of our 5 environments. This opportunity afforded me the ability to nurture continuous integration since build automation and deployment was thriving. My removal of manual intervention improved build and release notification accuracy.Developing beyond my immediate team allowed the underlying structure to hold fast while going through two subsequent tool changes to get satisfaction for all parties involved. Taking the approach of actualizing and enhancing brought our system online faster than fully evaluating each of the three options before beginning to implement.• Administering Apache configurations for all externally facing applications.• Automating password rolls through a suite of diverse applications.• Devising release orchestration workflows.

With an application suite growing to well over 80 diversified software products spanning multiple operating systems build and deployment automation necessitated further attention. Identifying all configuration points and commonalities was well worth the effort. Disagreements reigned through a vast array of topics including version formats, desired scripting tools, and branching strategies. Steadfastness and appropriate concessions resulted in a sturdy design. Through this exercise we raised standards and expectations for all parties bringing a new level of maturity to the whole of our organization.Load balancing our applications introduced a new level of complexity. Auditing the current state of all components for our applications was proving to be critical. Developing an automated solution capturing file checksums and emergency modifications to assets outside release cycles saved time identifying root causes during outages. Adding monitoring of these captures simplified proactive identification of potential threats to uptime.• Garnering resources for parallel build environments to manage competing priorities.• Reporting of baseline departures between like nodes across all environments.• Adhering to and enforcing change management controls for entire suite of applications.

Managing all configuration management aspects of our Windows product brought me to a deeper understanding of how all the individual components interact. Focusing our development team on product features took priority over installation requirements. Being invested in having appropriate files install based on the selections made by users I sought deeper understanding from the development team, taking over the product installer.• Maintaining product installers and enhancing as system deviations require.• Administering source code control system.• Archival and restoration of source code through tape and CD backups.

As products in development matured Quark would offer all employees the opportunity to participate in a bug hunt outside normal business hours. Working in Tech Support at the time I saw these events as opportunities to gain further insight into the product’s inner-workings. My methodical testing approach unearthed quite a variety of anomalies as well as simplified documenting steps to reproduce. Being paid a bonus for every unreported repeatable bug proved to be quite lucrative for me and gained the attention of our QA department. The QA manager lobbied for my transfer. Soon after I was creating a lab using under-powered systems to assign more tedious testing tasks on our 15 localized language versions as well as legacy Windows systems.• Automating key command test suite.• Developing software test plans.• Creating a lab for testing localized versions of developed software.
