- Field assistant with the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program and Dolphin Biology Research Institute. - Assist in the field with bottlenose dolphin studies, particularly health assessments, tagging, behavioral observations, habitat use, stranding response and rehabilitation- Research teams of up to 120+ national and international scientists and veterinarians.

• Member of NMML Directorate team; Directorate tasking coordinator and point of contact for NMML when leadership is unavailable. • Lead annual development of Alaska Marine Mammal Stock Assessment Reports. • National Marine Fisheries Service Liaison to the Alaska Scientific Review Group; organize annual meetings; coordinate with 50+ internal and external scientists and managers. • Alaska regional lead in developing guidance for national marine mammal Serious Injury Policy and Procedural Directives to assess human-caused injuries and mortalities of marine mammals; train staff on injury assessment.• Management of research permits under the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) and Convention for the International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES); environmental compliance of research activities. • Coordinate with NMFS science centers, regional offices, and headquarters on policy, regulatory, and other conservation and management decisions in support of implementation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act. • Conduct technical reviews of species management reports, publications, research permit applications. • Communicate research results to scientific peers, management officials, agencies, organizations, and general public via reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications. • Participate in field research, including ship-based and aerial surveys.• Attend scientific conferences, workshops, courses, and required training for field operations and administration.

• Manage marine mammal research collection database; anatomical dissections, medical imaging, photo documentation; prepare specimens for the marine mammal research collection; aid in identifying specimens and bones; coordinate research team activities and cooperative research.• Conduct research and produce manuscripts for publication on marine mammals (biology, human-impacts, environmental adaptations, conservation) in collaboration with the Curator of Marine Mammals.• Assist with necropsies of cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises) in the field and in the laboratory for assessment of overall health and cause of death.• Conduct studies of life history, human-impacts, and conservation of marine mammal species.• Design a beaked whale identification website to aid in identifying deep divers. http://www.vertebrates.si.edu/mammals/beaked_whales/pages/main_menu.htm• Collaborate with Smithsonian Institution staff, marine mammal stranding responders, researchers, students, and representatives from governments, universities, agencies, organizations, and other institutions.• Lead writer on grant proposals, technical reports, grants management, budget; program operational support. • Assist 70-80 national and international visiting researchers annually; foster collaborations among researchers.• Attend scientific meetings, conferences, and workshops; present research and scientific resource summaries.• Participate in education, outreach, and mentoring activities; initiate networking opportunities.
