I have been brainstorming on a fun idea that pushes the possibilities of repurposing useful materials that are in line to enter our waste stream. I call this Onebooktree. A Collection Facility and Design Center that takes in and finds a new home for local city scraps. This home is fun, functional and fresh. Onebooktree started with a box of trashed books found in Downtown Los Angeles, and became entirely viable for a current project I was designing. This design was a bench that was then made out of reclaimed books. After giving some books a new home that would have been, for a lack of better words, wasted. I fell in love with this “tired and true” concept of repurposing and I wanted to put a new spin on it. This book bench would soon grow into a goldmine of wonderful materials. Collecting everything from wood, books, magazines, plastics, metals and much more. I still haven’t even begun to scrape the surface of this Los Angeles scrap pile. My goal is to take in this scrap and design it into a modern, functional and individual live / work space. Welcome to Onebooktree.
