During my time at San Diego State University, I was a part of various entrepreneurship programs to learn the necessary tools and skills to launch a business. My co-founders and I had an idea and wanted to see if we could test the business model, developed the product and launch the business. With this idea were accepted in the Zahn Innovation Center, the SDSU on-campus startup incubator. Our plan was to bring to market a headphone device that could be used in the water. We put together a business plan, performed primary reach, brought on an engineer, began 3D printing prototypes, ordered internal components from a Chinese manufacturer, put together a minimum viable product, and performed basic testing. Over this 8-month span, we won startup competitions, featured our products at additional startup events and met with a variety of established entrepreneurs. In the end, the product design had limitations and needed experienced industrial designers to get it from prototype to a manufacturer ready design. Even though we had to shut the doors, it was an incredible learning experience to be exposed to.
