I work with individual adults and groups to make life better for my clients. Whether my clients arrive with a set goal—manage anxiety, find a better job, or get more from a stalled relationship—or are experiencing a more generalized state of existential discomfort or depression, we work collaboratively to build sufficient self-support to make real, lasting changes. Trained in the lineage of Gestalt, I hold the values of self-responsibility, authenticity, difference, and freedom in the highest esteem. I'm fiercely protective of our capacities as humans to be honest—in the here and now—about our experience; to be in aware relationships with others; and to cultivate a sense of joy, aliveness, and humor in everyday life. As a freelancer I help launch brands, conceptualize style guides, copy edit books, create basic ecommerce web page copy, and proofread memos. I've rewritten websites, edited field scans, and crafted copy for innumerable mailers, catalogs, product packages, press releases, and signage. I've worked for consumer retailers like Design Within Reach and Williams-Sonoma, as well as commercial brands like ACCO and Momentum Textiles, but also nonprofits like Lycée Francais and the Hewlett Foundation. My experience is vast and varied, matched only by my enthusiasm for and delight in the written word.

In 2014, I joined the Hewlett Foundation's stable of proofreaders, tasked with perusing their internal and external communications (including press releases, staff announcements, blog posts, board of directors materials, and more) to ensure unwavering adherence to proper grammar, to their dedicated guidelines, and to their preferred style guide. Recently I've begun assisting staff members who want to improve their written communication talents. By combining psychological insight and technical writing skills, clients are learning to articulate their ideas with clarity and confidence. It's a thrill to get to support all the wonderful things they're doing in the world.

Working part-time at this exemplary drug and alcohol treatment center, I facilitated process groups; ran gestalt-inspired groups where residents got to experiment with present-centered awareness; and met with clients individually to help them understand how and why they developed their addiction, and make plans to support their recovery. The clinical program at Bayside is integrally focused, in-depth, and comprehensive. It was a delight to work with such an extraordinary staff.

Writing designer bios and product copy, proofreading catalogs, proofreading product tags, and any other copy projects that arise—it's always a pleasure to work with the team at DWR.

As Copy Manager at Design Within Reach, I was responsible for all manner of content generation, from web pages to marketing emails to blog postings, from catalog pages to press releases. I skillfully maintained a consistent voice and level of quality throughout marketing communications, and was trusted as proofreader and DWR style expert.

I helped Williams-Sonoma, Inc. launch Mark and Graham, a monogramming and gifting brand that opened its virtual doors in November 2012. I wote their monthly catalog, product descriptions on the website, helped them with a copy style guide, and crafted or edited everything from their customer service phone script to website error messages to monogramming guide. I worked with the creative and marketing team to establish a uniquely distinctive personalized voice—to match their distinctive personalized product.

As the Managing Editor at Guitar Player, I was able to master the tricky balance that is an ME's job: the ability to see both the big picture, as well as maintain a keen understanding of the every-day minutiae of a smoothly run editorial department. I was involved in every step of the process, from conception through to the day the magazine shipped to the printer. And I learned that I always want to work with creative people who actually have fun at their jobs.
