I studied how transcriptional regulatory networks govern cell states. I designed artificial transcription factors to activate silent genes critical for reprogramming cells. I was among the first to target and robustly activate native gene in the human genome. This work in targeting and activating master regulators of a system led me to explore and apply this systems transformation logic to other human systems.
  • University Of Wisconsin-Madison
    Research Specialist
    University Of Wisconsin-Madison Jun 2006 - Jun 2009
    Madison, Wi
I studied stem cells in a variety of animal models organisms from the simplest, Trichoplax Adhaerens, to humans. I explored the transcription factors, epigenetics, and media conditions that govern the pluripotent, self-renewing phenotype of pluripotent stem cells. My work led to authorship based on our development of the gold standard chemically defined media, E8, which facilitates better cellular reprogramming efficiency and self-renewal. I was also acknowledged in one Cell Stem Cell peer reviewed article on epigenetic marks that are characteristic of human pluripotent stem cells.
