The class is based on form development and experimentation with new digital tools that allow us to capture the physical world digitally, allowing a new degree of manipulation. We do this through 3D scanning, software and printing technology. By appropriating our surrounding physical environment digitally, we can manipulate it in new ways. This allows us to ‘sample’ reality, modulating it into new meanings. What meaning can we imbue in form? How does form affect our senses? And how do we set up a series of conditions to develop form? Using this technology, we developed research and development in bionics and collabo- rated with Ekso Bionics in the development of bespoke bindings that would envelop the body in exact locations to provide balance and support while connecting it to the bionic device. As a volunteer with Project H I engaged in two different projects. With Whirlwind Wheelchair International we worked on improving the functionality of their chair. With The International Rescue Committee we focused on the creation of emergency furniture for refugees in this country.

Collaborated, as part of a student research group with IDEO, to develop a new five year college wide strategic plan for CCA.Carried out design research to learn from faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends.Presented project at the IDEO office in San Francisco.

I grew up in Mexico observing a lot of disadvantage for our indigenous communities. This project explores ways to empower them through the use of craft and tradition. Craft is inherited through generations and its unique to each region. We created a space in the city of Oaxaca to showcase the products, experiment with ideas and open the conversation with the rest of the community. The work that I developed throughout this years still inspires me to see design as a tool for social change and improvement.
