I am a graduate of the Farmer School of Business at Miami University having earned my B.S. in Marketing in 2017 and I am excited to be taking the next step in my career by pursuing a master’s degree in sports management from George Washington University. Like so many, I have always had a passion for sports. It has the power to bring people together, whether it’s a nation, city or individuals, like me and my current roommates who were my teammates on my high school rugby team. Playing and watching sports has always brought me a lot of enjoyment, but sports is also big business. From the time I entered undergraduate business school, it has been my goal to work professionally in the sports industry. My work experience has taught me the importance of preparation and discipline to address a wide variety of issues ranging from a serious crisis that challenges a company’s viability to adapting to industry change. Every challenge is different and there is rarely a perfect solution to address the challenge. I have learned, however, that challenges and change are inevitable and continual, and the sports industry is no different. They can come from anywhere and often without much warning.I look forward to learning how to tackle the kinds of challenges that will require professional management in the sports industry. With dedication and effort, I hope to gain a keen understanding of the industry and develop the business skills necessary to address those challenges while maximizing success and profitability. The skills I acquire through my program will be necessary no matter how I end up tied to the sports industry, whether it be for a sports organization, a league, a media organization or a sponsor with brand marketing sensitivities. With my passion and love for sports and the knowledge I gain through this program I hope to keep the industry moving forward.
