Staff Member

Castles In Communities

Ballintober, County Roscommon, Ireland

Have been a volunteer staff member with Castles in Communities since the summer of 2017 with a two year break due to covid. Program goals include excavation within and around 14th century Ballintober castle looking at different stages of development and the castle’s relationship to the environment. As a student/ staff member I have assisted program Directors in enhancing students experience, such as housing and other accommodations. I also assisted in teaching ethnographic field methods to first time students, including interview, ethnographic mapping, and participant observation. Independently I have focused on research questions regarding the relationship between the field school and the town, as well as the impact on the local relationships to the material culture and sense of Heritage. In that same capacity I am a key member in the development and data collection stages of a Heritage Map Project with the aim to create a platform in which multiple narratives are utilized to highlight different heritage places around Ballintober in a more wholistic manner.
