Acted as the lead developer of many complex CFD software tools that includes the following: Program TWOPHASE, for simulation of gas streams with heavy particulate loading. This code features fully coupled momentum exchange between the gas phase and the particulate. This software has been used extensively for predicting performance of coal pulverizers and burners, cement calciner towers and cyclones, and similar particulate handling equipment.Enhancements to TWOPHASE to incorporate particulate drying and evaporation. This includes drying of wet solids, such as coal or cement, and evaporation of liquid droplets. The evaporation model originated with water spray simulations but has since been adapted to also allow more complicated drying mechanisms. An example of this is for flue gas desulfurization systems, where droplets are injected and a chemical reaction occurs during the evaporation process that affects the evaporation rate.Developed software for several client-specific applications, such as:A finite-rate chemistry model for the accurate prediction of chemical reactions in a CO catalyst.Particulate build-up (or slag formation) in a utility furnace.Ammonia injection for power plant SCR catalysts.Heat treating of forged and cast metal parts for automobile engines.Automated CAD model and CFD mesh generator for cooling tower design.Act as the in-house expert for mentor based training of employees. -
