My name is Jesus Rivera, and I am currently attending Butte College with the intention of transferring to a four-year institution to pursue a degree in civil engineering. I am currently taking calculus and will begin more core courses next semester, including Engineering 1, Calculus 2, Physics 1, and Chemistry 11. My interest in civil engineering was sparked by an insightful interview with a civil engineer, who shared various career paths and showcased his blueprints. This experience ignited my passion for structural design and the desire to create my own building designs. In addition this I previously managed my own gardening business, successfully growing it from the ground up and earning recognition in my neighborhood. This experience grew my skills in project management, attention to detail, sustainability practices, problem-solving, creativity, and resource management—skills I believe are essential for a career in engineering. Although my focus is on structural design, I am open to any sort of Construction Management, or engineering internship to further develop my technical skills, gain knowledge and further amplify my opportunities in the workforce.
