Working for Patrick, I found myself doing an interesting mix of LexisNexis, library, public database and field research. Learning the mechanics of these has given me a greater understanding of research and also the belief that if you only press on, and look in the right places, you can find/ accomplish what ever you need to.

Working at Johnson & Johnson during the tumultuous period of the McNeil plant closure, I was afforded many, many unexpected opportunities for which I am very grateful.I found myself coordinating with engineering, logistics and external vendors to ship over $1 million worth of vital components both internationally and nationally for the Factory/ Site Acceptance Testing phases of the new McNeil plant. All while in a time of heavy FDA and general QA scrutiny.While preforming this ongoing duty, I was also put in charge of more than 3, $300,000+ RFP processes where I directly: wrote the information request directions; defined deliverables; sourced vendors, analyzed the responses, negotiated terms; wrote contracts and ultimately presented to internal business partners.I had the unique opportunity to read through RFP's from vendors ranging from creative agencies to snow removal companies to independent scientific analysis projects and much in between.As I was working under 6 different areas, I had the opportunity to work directly with vendors, internal partners and legal council to compose and execute a total of 103 contracts.Furthermore, I developed, organized and led 3 training sessions to educate 25+ employees on IBM Cognos, a valuable reporting tool for procurement. This was accompanied by a 12 page training manual that I created. For my efforts, I received a "Gold Encore Award". Another leadership experience I had while with J&J was organizing an interdepartmental tour of the consumer care (call) center through networking. The event was attended by those at the director level through analysts and all came away with new found appreciation for the end consumer's concerns for J&J products.

The Philadelphia Business Journal has been covering business in Philadelphia and surrounding areas for over 30 years and has a readership of over 98,000.As an intern, I supported the advertising sales team through competitive assessment, lead gathering, preparing for sponsored events and cold-calling.Working at PBJ gave me the unique opportunity to become familiarized with many different types of businesses, but it is the last mentioned function, cold-calling, that really left the biggest impression on me.Through performing over 300 cold-calls, I learned to approach any given situation in a confident and self-motivated manner, which has permeated every professional experience that I have had since. Also, I've come to appreciate the selling leverage to be gained by truly understanding what benefit the customer will have from utilizing what you are selling--along with the ability to communicate this benefit.

My experience with the non-profit that engages the homeless community through running, Back on My Feet, imparted to me many key skills. Under the tutelage of Director of Media, Christopher Wink--now Co-founder of Technically Media (of Philly Tech Week fame)--I had the opportunity to learn much. The skills fostered here include:- Establishing a social media presence on multiple platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter.- Crafting press releases to be sent to major media outlets.- Managing an organization's blog, via Wordpress, by editing/ approving employee's postings and also by generating content.- Publishing a newsletter and email mailing list contacts using the Constant Contact platform.These skills make up the majority my professional experience at Back on My Feet, but this does not paint a fully holistic picture of my time there. Working with the professionals at BoMF and the individuals experiencing homelessness, called "residential members", also gave me a more refined perspective on the nature of opportunity. I am grateful for this.

Penn Widow Home is a non-profit retirement/ assisted care facility located in Philadelphia, PA.My function was akin to being a waiter, bus-boy and cook's assistant all in one. It was my duty to understand each individual resident's unique nutrition requirements, while also ensuring that they are comfortable and well-served.This experience, coupled with others, has left me with a sound understanding of and commitment to customer satisfaction; especially how to serve with a smile, even when it may be difficult.
