I was selected to shadow Dr. Gardy Marcelin, an OBGYN in his private practice where I observed his day to day appointments with women. It offered me a great opportunity to enhance my interaction with patients as I communicated with them as well. For less routine obstetric cases, I shadowed Dr. Marcelin at Bethesda Hospital where I observed emergency deliveries and Cesarean sections.

Miami, Florida

Dr. Brian Doss and the members of his lab created ourrelationship.com, a free, online marriage counseling alternative. I worked briefly with Dr. Doss at the University of Miami on organizing and monitoring his lab's Google advertising campaign, including search, display, and video ads.

Stanford, California

I was selected to participate in a summer research program under Dr. Russell Fernald, conducting an original research project on the effect of social information on H. burtoni territory choice. The lab I worked in was interested in asking if visual cues influence the fish’s decision about where to establish a territory. Understanding the brain mechanisms underlying this choice would inform us about the brain areas responsible for choice behavior. It was a very unique experience in which I was able to formulate and execute my own research project.

Coral Springs, Florida

I was selected in high school, along with one other student, to shadow Dr. William Weisberg at the Coral Springs Surgical Center where I was able to observe a number of surgical procedures. I continued to serve as an intern when I was in Florida for the next two years.

Washington D.C. And South Florida

This program offered a truly life changing experience via selecting five student leaders from the South Florida area in the Neighborhood Excellence Initiative with Bank of America. The program included a paid internship with a local nonprofit organization (like the YMCA) for eight weeks and concluded with a Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. Student Leaders were able to use hands-on experience with the community to explore how nonprofits can be connected to large corporations like Bank of America.

University Of Florida

I was selected to participate in the Student Science Training Program at the University of Florida where I conducted original horticultural research under Dr. Xin Zhao on Cucurbit plant grafting. I was also able to take an Honors Seminar on Biomaterials and Biomedical Applications. After presenting on the research I had conducted, I was nominated as a Speaker for the Junior Science Engineering Humanities Symposium in 2010 and won a Best Presentation Award.
