I am a design researcher and designer for social impact. My approach connects an understanding of social problems through a sociological lens with the creative problem-solving approach of human-centered design. I help bring tangibility to ambiguity, support people on their journey of building creative confidence, and use co-design and self-determined design approaches to challenge inequity. Drawing from the fields of community development and participatory design, my international work explores how intentional, inclusive, context-informed design can improve social systems, shift power, and radically innovate systems and complex public service delivery for long-term outcomes. After launching an SMS-based feedback program to help patients and health workers make the most of rural health clinics, supporting Indigenous communities to design Victoria’s first Aboriginal Youth Justice strategy, and building a new model of foster care side-by-side with families with lived experience, I’ve seen first-hand how co-design and social innovation can shift the systems that perpetuate oppression, intergenerational disadvantage, and injustice. I believe in the power of multidisciplinary collaboration and co-design to center lived experience as expertise. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of learning from international design practitioners, young people, resilient communities, and political change-makers. While global society has come far in the past few decades, there is much more work to be done, and it won’t happen through individuals alone.
