CurrentI specialise in planning and environmental law, advising public and private sector clients on development projects and major infrastructure projects. I advised the Scottish Government in relation to promotion of the Forth Replacement Crossing as well as on compulsory purchase issues related to major roads CPOs. I have advised on local authority waste projects for Glasgow, Aberdeenshire and Edinburgh. I advise on major redevelopment projects including at New Waverley, Edinburgh and Davidson's Mill, Aberdeen. I have particular experience in the promotion of housing sites including a successful court challenge to the Edinburgh City Local Plan. I have conducted numerous planning appeals including advocacy at appeals and public inquiries.I also have experience of the promotion of development projects in England including public inquiries and development consent orders on highways, rail and energy projects. I act on the promotion of energy schemes with experience throughout the UK in unconventional gas, nuclear, solar and wind as well as grid infrastructure.I am active in pro bono work on children's rights. In 2014, I undertook substantial pro bono work for UNICEF which centred on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in Bangladesh. This included a field trip to Dhaka working with senior Bangladesh Government officers and UNICEF staff on legislative drafting. I have worked on an international NSPCC child protection project as well as revising child protection policies for various charities. I am currently working with UNICEF on a child justice project in Uzbekistan and spent a week in Tashkent discussing law reform and judicial training needs.
