About Michael Roy
I'm Mike. American born, but have been exploring Asia for most of the time since I graduated in 2006. I’ve studied Italian for a summer while living in an old Tuscan hostel; lived for a semester with an Italian family; taught English to kids in South Korea; backpacked around Southeast Asia; crossed the USA via Amtrak; volunteered at a tree-planting project in Tamil Nadu, India; returned to South Korea to work as as a professor; and organized a Green Living group for expats in my city. Three Rule Ride
I rode my bicycle from my old home in Daegu, South Korea, to my new home in Auroville, India, covering 20,000 miles and passing through 14 countries along the way. In addition to lots of sightseeing, camping, and impromptu homestays, I also stopped to volunteer as often as I could - English schools, organic farms, orphanages, sustainable communities, reforestation projects, and more. Along the way I've done my best to practice minimum-impact tourism, hoping to leave every place I visit a little cleaner and greener then when I arrived.
