Restores river habitat for endangered species and models flood risk. Uses 1D and 2D hydrodynamic models, 1D and 2D morphodynamic models, and AutoCAD Civil3D. Automates various analyses and optimizes restoration designs using Python, VBA, and VB.NET.For example, I wrote an app for AutoCAD Civil3D that automates the design of channels with user-defined sinuosity and average wavelength. This can be used to rapidly design channel networks for tidal marsh restoration projects as natural tidal channels have certain geometric properties that are replicated in restoration designs for geomorphic resilience. Used LiDAR and a two-dimensional hydrodynamic model to mechanistically characterize human exposure to hydraulic hazards for application in mountain rivers, urban floods, and other dangerous flow settings. Presented a poster at the 2014 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting and published an article in Natural Hazards.

Used spatially explicit metrics to reenvision the classic velocity reversal mechanism as a diversity of discharge-dependent behaviors of peak velocity patches across a suite of landforms in the lower Yuba River. Presented findings to the Lower Yuba River Management Team and presented a poster at the 2012 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting. Published an article in Hydrological Processes.

Assisted with water quality monitoring along the Klamath River to establish a biogeochemical baseline for different reaches of the river, given plans for dam removal. Measured velocity, temperature, pH, EC, and DO in the field as well as collected samples for TSS, VSS, chlorophyll-a, and gas chromatograph readings in the lab.
