The Peninsula College Fund puts the missing pieces together to help low-income, first-generation college students reach the college graduation finish line.While many first-generation students make it to college, fewer than a quarter of them make it through college in under six years. Our innovative and highly effective program helps ensure that our scholars succeed where others falter. We provide four-year scholarships, one-to-one adult mentors, college and career success training, and summer internship placements and stipends. Together, these resources make college more affordable, and help our scholars successfully navigate the journey to graduation and a career.WHY IT MATTERS? Each PCF student who obtains a college diploma helps a family improve its circumstances, strengthens our community, and adds to the Bay Area’s economic growth. Just as importantly, they inspire others in their community to follow in their footsteps. IMPACT DATASince our first freshman class in 2006, PCF has already changed the face of some of the Peninsula’s most challenged communities. 116 students have been part of the PCF program. First-generation college students from low-income families face a high risk of not completing college. According to statistics from the Pell Institute*, nearly 47% of first-generation, low-income college students drop out of college within six years of enrollment, compared to only 23% of higher income, multi-generation college students. PCF is turning the tide. 90% of PCF students have either graduated or are on track to graduate. Our program more than doubles the odds that low-income, first generation college students will graduate college.
