I have recently returned to the UK from a Sabbatical circumnavigating Australia after working in Australia for 6 years with BT Australia. I am now actively seeking new IT leadership roles with a vast experience (over 18 years) in IT Outsourcing within Government and Health.I have undertaken many leadership roles, with my recent role as Head of Design & Architecture across BT Australia and then previous CTO roles for major IT Outsourcing Programmes. My most notable achievement has been providing the IT services for the Fiona Stanley Hospital greenfield build in Perth, Western Australia as the CTO. I am seeking interesting roles where I can make a significant impact to deliver a successful outcome/transformation.

After leaving BT Australia towards the end of 2016 my wife and I took the opportunity to circumnavigate Australia before returning to the UK in 2018. We had spent 6 years working in Australia and have always had a passion for outdoor activities, so this was a golden opportunity to undertake some of the iconic hikes in Australia and visit many places we had come to learn about during our time in Australia.We started a blog to document our travels which grew in popularity to the point we started working with Australian companies to document specific trips and review camping and hiking equipment. We have had a lot of feedback from our readers over this time and still have lots of people using our articles today to make informed gear purchases and enhance their travel plans.Yes, this was a trip of a lifetime with one of my personal highlights undertaking an 18 day backpacking trek into Alice Springs called the Larapinta Trail. This trip was also a learning curve into the world of blogging, marketing and building a brand, using social media and blogging techniques.My wife and I have now returned to the UK to spend time with our families and develop our careers further.

I was part of the BT Country Management Team for Australia responsible for managing the BT Australia Design & Architecture team consisting of over 20 architects and designers engaged on multi-million pound deals based in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. This team focused on the large complex BT Australia customers providing global network services, unified communications, contact centres and IT outsourcing customers. The role covered all aspects of the customer lifecycle from supporting complex bids, deliveries and long term managed support. Challenging aspects of this role included managing a geographically dispersed team whilst also supporting global customer organisations.

Fiona Stanley Hospital was a greenfield new hospital development, one of the largest building projects ever undertaken by the Western Australian Government. BT were invited to join Serco in providing a response to the government to provide facilities management services including associated IT services. I joined the bid we were running in Perth, Australia to support this to completion to ensure a successful outcome for BT. After being successful with this bid I took the opportunity to manage the technical deliverables for this programme as the CTO throughout the delivery and into a new managed service operation.This programme has been the highlight of my career to date to achieve the opening of a greenfield hospital and the ability to shape this into something that is really making a difference to the lives of its users both as patients, visitors and members of staff. Of course this type of programme comes with its own challenges and I had to recruit a large new team whilst also hitting the ground running to start achieving deliverables. The result is an outstanding fully functioning hospital after lots of great programme achievements as well as significant challenges.

My role as CTO covered the full IT Outsourcing partnership we had with the City of Edinburgh Council. My major achievement during this time was the transformation of the desktop, server and network estate across all Council departments.I managed the delivery of many improvement projects during my time in this role which enhanced services to the Citizens of Edinburgh. Whilst undertaking this new work the focus was still on providing a high quality service for all existing services with a managed service team of 100 people. I provided technical leadership to this team to ensure we could always look to improve the service we offered in the most efficient way.

I joined the City of Edinburgh Council team as the Lead Architect responsible for all delivery projects. This role was focused in delivering new business projects in the Council and then ensuring a smooth introduction into the managed service environment. I managed a team of designers and implementation engineers to ensure we delivered quality designs to meet the customer requirements. Projects during this role included a new finance system, new voting system, education infrastructure projects, new desktop rollout as well as a number of other departmental based solutions.

I joined the NHS Spine programme to focus on deployment architecture working within an architecture team responsible for the release management and deployment architecture. I designed and deployed new test environments including a performance & Resilience environment as the final environment before full release. One of my greatest achievements during this role was architecting and bringing on-line a secondary data centre to provide high availability services across two geographical locations in the UK.

After completion of the BT Syntegra Graduate two year programme I moved into the role of a senior implementation engineer working across many projects within Government and Health. During this time I joined the BT Fast Track Technical Design Authority programme. This programme developed my TDA skills with both practical project based work with customers and achieving a diploma in analysis and design. Once this was complete I took the TDA leadership role on a number of projects before progressing into the Solution Architecture discipline.

I Joined BT Syntegra (Systems Integration business of BT) as a technical graduate undertaking the two year graduate programme. This programme consisted of four projects lasting 6 months each and intensive training courses taking place within this time. Training focused on both business and technical skills with projects being completed as the programme progressed. During this time I had the opportunity to work in managed service and technical implementation roles for multiple customers.
