The International Center for Professional Development (ICPD) offers continuing education programs for students and professionals using personalized face-to-face experiential training and ongoing web-based support.ICPD programs advance professional careers by demystifying complex aspects of career development and enhancing relevant skills for emerging industries. Our faculty includes recognized leaders from high-growth industries and academia.We support professionals in developed markets as well as newly developing economies and promote learning across disciplines using interactive and direct instruction, facilitated discussions, career counseling, workplace experience, mentoring and networking.

Works with states to systemically improve their biotechnology education programs, K-life.Assists biotechnology companies improve their outreach and engagement in their communities and the nation.Recruits and/or selects middle school, high school, community college and university educators to participate in the BIO International Convention and National Biotechnology Teacher-Leader program.Serves as the primary point person between the Biotechnology Institute and the BIO State Affiliates.Provides general strategic advice and guidance.

AACC is an international scientific/medical society of clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, research scientists and other individuals involved with clinical chemistry and related disciplines. Founded in 1948, the society has 10,000 members and is headquartered in Washington, DC. Scott May’s department is responsible for the AACC Annual meeting, government affairs, membership, public relations/communications, professional programs, and Lab Tests Online (LTO). The professional programs include the association’s face-to-face conferences, audioconferences, and webinars. LTO is the world’s premier portal for patients, clinicians and laboratorians to learn about lab tests. The U.S. site gets up to 1.8 million visitors per month, and LTO is hosted in 10 countries and 8 different languages. At AACC he manages a budget with revenues in excess of $12.3 million.

Founded by BIO, the lead trade association for the biotechnology industry, in 1998, the Biotechnology Institute is an independent, national nonprofit membership organization. Its mission is to engage, excite and educate the public, particularly young people, about biotechnology and its immense potential for solving human health, food and environmental problems. Through year-round programs, the Institute is creating a base of understanding and awareness about biotechnology among teachers and students –and building the next generation of leaders in the industry. At the Institute he managed the relationship between BIO and the Biotechnology Institute, he raised over $1.5 million funds annually from the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry and government grants, directed 9 programs that promote interest in biotechnology education at the state and school system level, and managed federal and state grant programs.

• Managed President Bush’s Mathematics and Science Initiative for the Secretary of Education• Advised officials on how to improve the quality of mathematics and science teachers, expand the research base on how students learn, and increase public awareness of the importance of mathematics and science education. • Directed the department’s response to community colleges following hurricane Katrina

• Managed new programs and services using web-based technologies by creating and executing a business plan to deliver asynchronous online professional development to educators, launching synchronous and archived webcasts, and helping with the development of a Internet-based system that supports distributed teams as they create and disseminate online lessons.• Directed and developed the NSTA Institute’s co-marketing partner relationships with four premier providers of online professional development programs• Managed the Corporate Advisory Group and established partnerships with corporations and foundations that support the creation of self-sustaining units within NSTA• Coordinated the development and submission of proposals to government, foundation, and corporate giving programs, along with the giving of non-cash gifts to NSTA

Project 2061 Professional Development Programs (PDP), Directed, managed, and grew the organization as it became a premier teacher training organization focused on advancing science, mathematics, and technology literacy. Managed all of the organization’s activities and was responsible for its success in the following areas:• Strategic planning – led the organization as it refined its business model to become a profitable enterprise• Marketing – supervised full-time and contract marketing staff; achieved average annual sales increases of 100%; and directly developed international markets, leading to business with China, Singapore, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Panama, Guatemala, and El Salvador• Development and fund raising – wrote grants and assisted clients with proposal writing. Helped win awards from the U.S. government (National Science Foundation and Department of Education), foundations, and corporations • Operations and training – supervised the staff that supports workshop logistics and program delivery as PDP grew to produce nearly 300 program days around the world in 2001

This non-profit educational organization offers tailored and public executive seminars for corporations, associations, and MBA programs. The seminars are non-partisan and business-oriented. Faculty includes Members of Congress and their staff, senior White House officials, lobbyists, journalists, and scholars.• Created a pilot multi-point video-teleconference course, obtained corporate backing for the project, and developed web-based approaches to support the course• Designed, conducted, and facilitated 63 executive seminars of 2-5 days in length and 8 month-long MBA courses. Participants ranged from CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies to full-time MBA students• Developed specialty seminars for senior corporate management and for foreign government officials and doubled the Executive MBA residency volume every year• Collaborated on the design, delivery, and facilitation of “The Formation of Economic Policy" course in Washington, D.C., for top MBA students nationwide
