My role was to set regulatory policy on key initiatives, support the business in achieving its objectives and lead external engagement with regulators and other bodies. This included:Influencing the FCA and FOS on non-advised and simplified advice selling to support our D2C offering. This has led to a clear position on selling through non-advised channels at low risk. Playing a leading role on the ABI Distribution Committee which is responsible for reviewing distribution related regulatory change and forming ABI opinion. Leading on European Directives including PRIPS, IMD2 and MiFID2 to address potential threats to non-advised selling, auto-enrolment and pensions selling. Exerting influence on FCA and HMT leads. I also represent Aviva on the ABI EU Conduct Working Group. Working with Distribution leads to proactively amend distributors’ benefit and hospitality packages. This has been an area of scrutiny following RDR and I ensured that the deals complied with FCA rules whilst not putting us at competitive disadvantage.Acting as a subject matter expert on FCA rules and principles. I managed the Life & Pension Technical Support Team for National & Provincial Life and subsequently Abbey National Life. My role was to support sales advisors by providing technical advice and training on products, the regulatory regime and sales opportunities. Later, I managed the Abbey National pension review.

I joined Friends Provident on their Graduate Trainee Scheme. After periods spent in Actuarial, Marketing and Underwriting I became a Junior Manager in their Pensions Technical Services Department.
