I've never been a developer in my life. Not even of film. (I took a COBOL class at Durham Tech in 1981. That's as close as I come.) I get so many calls about some place needing a developer... Then there's the trio of child care, child support, and child welfare. Okay, everyone, that children's song you learned way back when, "One of these things is not like the other..." The recruiter calls all excited, I'm looking, s/he's looking for someone who's looking, and they get about 26 words out and I realize it's about that one that I DON'T have any experience with, and I have to interrupt him/her, doing my politest best not just to plain ol' interrupt... Ryan has never suggested that I consider being submitted on a project where I don't have at least a little more than fleeting acquaintance with the subject matter (being a native West Virginian, I'm familiar with some things having to do with oil, but alas, not many tuna make their way up the Kanawha or the Gauley). And on other occasions, he's actively discouraged me a time or two from pursuing one opportunity in preference to another that is better in discernible ways than one in which I'm more keenly interested, and he's been right about these, to my enduring benefit. Whenever I see a between-times moment approaching on my calendar, I'm sure always to include Ryan in whom I let know of my impending availability and plan on continuing to do so while I remain engaged in the workforce."
