I am the Chief Executive at Luminate, a global philanthrophic organisation established by Pierre Omidyar, founder of eBay in 2018. Luminate works to ensure that everyone, especially the underrepresented has the information, rights and power to influence the decisions that affect their lives. We work in Africa, Asia and Latin America and on policy and advocacy efforts in Europe and the US.I was previously a Partner at Omidyar Network, a philanthropic investment firm set up by the Omidyar family. I led the Governance and Citizen Engagement Initiative from 2009 until October 2018. Up until December 2008 I was Chief Executive of BBC Media Action - an international organisation established by the BBC which uses the resources and expertise of the BBC to advance international development. My career to date has involved extensive senior management experience in international settings, including three years in South East Asia and leadership roles in Canada and the UK. I have an in-depth understanding of international development issues, gained through academic study and practical involvement in complex project management, in Asia and Africa and also through international policy work with bodies such as the UN, the European Union and bilateral agencies. I have considerable experience in organisational change and governance issues - gained through membership of a number of boards. I currently serve on the Board of Co-Creation Hub, a pan-African technology innovation company, headquartered in Nigeria, Myanmar Trust UK which works with some of the most isolated groups in Myanmar and Phandeeyar, a SE Asian technology innovation organisation. I have sat on a number of boards in previous years - including the International Consortium of Investigate Journalists (producers of the Panama Papers), CARE International and many others.Specialties: International Development - technology, development and media.
