Our goal is to empower people and institutions to build just and fair societies. We do this by funding and supporting non-profit and for-profit organizations and advocating for policies and actions that will help people participate in and shape the issues affecting their lives.

BBC Media Action (prev. BBC World Service Trust) was established by the BBC to promote international development through communications and to build media expertise in developing countries. Using the resources and expertise across the BBC, it works in partnership with local and national broadcasters to produce programming in local languages which use the power of the media to provide accessible health, human rights, environmental and educational programming to developing countries. It uses the skills of the BBC to provide training to local broadcasters and, in countries which have experienced conflict, it has been at the forefront of rebuilding the country’s media infrastructure.It works in 43 countries worldwide, has a staff of 600 and is funded by DFID, EU, FCO, Foundations, UN agencies and individuals.

The International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW) is an international organisation working to promote social development. It has over 100 member organisations in over 70 countries, mainly in the developing world. It undertakes policy development, advocacy and training for its members. ICSW has the highest consultative status at the UN and led the non-governmental sector at key UN conferences and meetings.

HelpAge International (HAI) is a worldwide federation of more than 70 national age-care organisations providing care and support for older people. As Director of the Regional Development Centre in Asia I was a member of HAI's global senior management team and managed a large multinational staff, including Asia’s only regional training agency delivering practical age care training in conjunction with the University of Chiang Mai. I was responsible for managing a period of substantial growth in the regional centre, managing a programme and administrative budget of over $4 million in 18 countries in Asia. I was responsible for developing the 16 HAI national organisations in the region and developing policy with national and intergovernmental bodies. I represented the network on a regional level with the UN, WHO and other national and international bodies
